Meeting Success
CATHY THOMPSON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Cathy ThompsonIn our last issue, I forgot to mention our November meeting. We went to a Hornets Basketball game. If you have not been, it is really awesome! I’m pretty sure we had some of the best seats in the house. We were in a suite with great food and high spirits. And to top off an already good time, the Hornets won! This year’s Spring Meeting was held in Lafayette. If you missed it, you missed some really great information. The faculty who presented at the meeting were amazing. They did a great job explaining the technology and gave many examples about how they are using it successfully with their patients.

It is hard to believe that another legislative session has arrived. The Executive Council met by phone to discuss bills that are currently filed affecting Mental Health. Information will be sent to each of you by way of “Legislative Alerts.” We will ask for input as well as your action on certain issues that come up along the way. Please take a moment to share your thoughts and contact your legislators when asked. This will greatly improve your ability to keep mental health care in the hands of you and your patient.

APAIt is time to start planning now for the 164th Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association which will take place from May 14-18, 2011 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The last time that the APA met in Hawaii was more than 35 years ago. I would like to encourage you to take advantage of this extraordinary location as an opportunity to learn about the newest advances and treatments in psychiatry while simultaneously enjoying the cultural experience of a truly global venue.

Those DBs each win a prize of THREE FREE MEMBER REGISTRATIONS to the 2011 Annual Meeting in Hawaii. The winning DBs may decide how to award the registrations. However, once the individual registrations are awarded, it is important to let us know the names of the winners so that our Annual Meetings Department can arrange the waived registration fee. We’d also love to hear about the different ways the DBs will award the registrations, e.g., raffle, silent auction, etc. Congratulations!!
