Join the LPMA
When you join the
Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association (LPMA)
, you become part of a member organization of physicians who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses. The LPMA unites psychiatrists from around the state and brings together practice, education, and research at all levels. As the largest psychiatric membership organization in Louisiana, we are dedicated to promoting the highest quality care for patients, providing continuing education and research into mental illnesses, and advocating for psychiatrists and their profession.
The LPMA is unified with the APA. Different dues rates are charged for different member classes. Dues are reduced for the first six years of General Membership, to ease the burden of membership for Early Career Psychiatrists. National dues for the APA are separate from LPMA dues. General Members (GM) -
Physicians who have completed an acceptable program of training in psychiatry, and hold either a valid license to practice medicine or hold an academic, research, or governmental position that does not require licensure. General Members may apply for Fellowship or be nominated for Distinguished Fellowship provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
General Member Application
- Physicians who have been accepted into a psychiatric residency training program that is approved by the ACGME, RCPS(C), or AOA and remain enrolled therein. Residents enrolled in a one- year primary care training program to be followed by an approved psychiatric residency are eligible for Member-in-Training status.
Your First Year of Dues as a Member-in-Training is waived!
Medical Student Member (MS)
- Individuals who are enrolled in a U.S. or Canadian school of medicine, including osteopathic medicine, and remain enrolled therein. Medical Student Members are
and are required to belong at the national level only (exempt from dual membership requirement).

Dr. Lee Stevens 2013-2014 President
Dr. Lee Stevens was born in Happy, Texas. He graduated UT Houston medical school in 1979. Dr. Stevens is board certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Practice and Psychiatry with sub-specialties in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Geriatric and Addiction Psychiatry. He retired from the US ARMY reserves as a Colonial in July of 2009. Dr. Stevens is happily married to June and combined they boast of thirteen grandchildren. He currently serves as Professor at LSUHSC - Shreveport and Deputy Coroner of Caddo Parish. Dr. Stevens is the current Secretary of Shreveport Medical Society and will begin his AMA Delegate term in January of 2013, he is also President of the LPMA.
