Juliana M. Fort,
MD and Charles H. Zeanah, Jr., MD were elected to the status of
Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
This election reflects
recognition by their peers of their outstanding abilities, talents and
contributions to psychiatry. They will receive a special medallion at the
Convocation of Fellows at the Annual Meeting in Chicago in May.
Juliana M. Fort, MD is a
Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for the Mental Health Centers in Region VII
for the State of La. and has been in part-time private practice as the Medical
Director of the Senior Care Unit at Minden Medical Center since 1995. Dr. Fort
received her Bachelor of Science degree and her medical degree from LSU-S and
the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport as an accelerated six-year student.
She completed a psychiatric residency and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Fellowship at Tulane Medical School. She is a Diplomate of the American Board
of Psychiatry and Neurology with board certifications in Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry and added qualifications in Addiction, Geriatric and Forensic
Psychiatry. She is on the Courtesy Faculty of LSU Medical School in Shreveport
as an assistant clinical professor of Psychiatry. She graduates in May of 2000
with a Master's degree in Public Health Practice from the University of South
Florida and she is currently pursuing a Master's in Business Administration at
Centenary College.
Dr. Fort was president of the North Louisiana
Chapter of LPMA and Vice President of LPMA. She served on LPMA committees on
Psychiatry and Religion, Public Affairs and Women. She is currently serving as
the editor for the LPMA newsletter.
Dr. Fort was President of the
Charity House Staff Association and served as Delegate to the Resident
Physician Section of AMA She chaired the Mental Health and Substance Abuse
Committee for the Louisiana State Medical Society and she continues to serve as
a delegate to LSMS.
Dr. Fort is a Founding Charter Member of the Board
of Directors of the Louisiana Association for Play Therapy and served as their
first Treasurer. She is a registered Play Therapy Supervisor for the
International Association for Play Therapy. She was instrumental in bringing
Chimp Haven to Shreveport and was a Founding Chair of the Red River Zooport (www.zooport.org). Dr. Fort is Secretary of
the African American Multicultural Tourist Commission in Shreveport. She
volunteers as a member of the Junior League of Shreveport- Bossier in local
community projects for women and children at risk. |

Charles H. Zeanah,
Jr., MD is the Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Tulane
Medical School. He is the Director of the Infant Mental Health Team at the
Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority and is on the faculty of the Harris
Program in Infant Mental Health in the Psychiatry Department at LSU School of
Medicine. He is a consultant in Child Psychiatry to Children's Bureau,
DePaul-Tulane Hospital and the New Orleans Adolescent Hospital.
Dr.
Zeanah is Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical Pediatrics at Tulane Medical
School, Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the University of New Orleans and
Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at LSU Medical School.
Dr. Zeanah was
a cum laude graduate of Tulane University with honors in English. He received
his medical degree from Tulane and completed a psychiatry residency at Duke
University. He was a Child Fellow at Stanford University. Dr. Zeanah is a
Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is also board
certified in Child Psychiatry.
Dr. Zeanah is an American Academy of
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Fellow and has chaired their Committee
on Infancy. He currently chairs their Committee on Research. He serves as
Secretary for the World Association for Infant Health and was Program Chair for
their Fifth World Congress. He is an at-large member of the Executive Board of
the Louisiana Infant Mental Health Association.
Dr. Zeanah is a board
member of the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse of Greater New Orleans. He was
the coach and team sponsor of Carrollton League Basketball for 10-12 year-old
girls and a Sunday school teacher at St. Martin's and Trinity Episcopal
churches.
Dr. Zeanah was the primary mentor for Postdoctoral Fellows,
Research Scientist Development Award scholars, James Comer Minority Research
Fellows, Jeanne Spurlock Minority Clinical Fellows, Alpha Omega Alpha Research
Fellows and AACAP Minority Fellows and child psychiatry fellows at Stanford,
Brown, LSU and Tulane. He serves on the Dissertation Committee at the
University of New Orleans.
Dr. Zeanah has many publications, serves on
several editorial boards and is the Editor of "The Signal," Newsletter of the
World Association for Infant Mental Health and Consulting Editor for the Infant
Mental Health Journal. |
