LPMA Returning to Costa Rica for Fall Meeting

LPMA is returning to Costa Rica for the Fall Meeting, Sept. 21-23, 2000. Many of the members who enjoyed our meeting there in 1993 asked for another visit and those who missed it and heard descriptions of the beauty and diversity of Costa Rica clamored for an opportunity to experience it themselves. The meeting will be held in the Cariari Resort Hotel, which is located near San Jose.

Daniel K. Winstead, MD, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology at Tulane, is planning the meeting. The scientific program is entitled "The Suicidal Patient:Risk Assessment, Prevention & Treatment." Speakers are Jan Fawcett, MD who will give the keynote address on "An Overview of Suicide;" Donna M. Mancuso, MD on "Assessment & Intervention with the Acutely Suicidal Patient;" Patrick T. O'Neill, MD on "Suicide in Affective (Bipolar) Disorders);" Jose M. Pena, MD on "Suicide Risk and Dangerousness to Self in Orders for Protective Custody;" Richard F. Dalton, Jr., MD on "Suicide and Suicidal Behaviors in Adolescents;" Kenneth M. Sakauye on Suicidal Threats/Behaviors in the Elderly;" and Richard L. Gibson, MD, J.D. on "Physician Assisted Suicide."
LPMA meetings will take place on the morning of the 2lst before the program begins at 1:30 pm.
